We love to share stories from the amazing work that the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa do. We are so proud that we are able to support them by donating 2% of our profits to them. This truly is an amazing, heart warming story of five fantastic young chaps who saved the life of a Labrador.
The boys, from Phillippi East, an underprivileged area of Cape Town, South Africa have been dubbed 'The Magnificent 5', as they rescued an abandoned Labrador who was found lying in the bushes.
They were first noticed by the team at AWS as the little group were determinedly marching down the long driveway with a timid Labrador in tow. Each of them with a hand outstretched to prop-up what appeared to be a very weak and neglected dog.
They finally stood in the doorway looking as though they had just crossed the finish line of a marathon and won first prize as they in between hurried breaths excitedly took turns proudly explaining that they had found the dog lying in the bushes and went into great detail about the ingenious plan they hatched to help him.
At first they whistled and called in the hope that the dog would stand up and follow them but all this gentle old soul could manage was a tail wag. This inspired the group to look for something to lever the dog up and lead him.
So whilst two stood guard over their treasured find the other three went in search of something that would work as a makeshift collar and lead. It was only minutes later they were back with an old leather belt that they gently fitted around the dog’s neck.
To their amazement the dog stood up and they hurriedly began their arduous journey that took them along littered footpaths and busy roads. The trip took them hours to complete and never once did any of them complain or consider giving up. These determined little heroes were on a mission – to save their new best friends life. The heroic lengths that this tight knit little group of friends went to, to save their new best friends life was quite extraordinary.
The AWD team took the dog in and through their loving care, nursed it back to full health. The dog has since been named Champ and through the AWS rehoming program, has found a loving forever home! The Magnificent 5 boys have been rewarded for their incredible, kind work in saving the dog and even made it into the newspaper with for their efforts!
Great work chaps, we are sure Champ is so grateful for the love and care that you showed him!
